The calendar may be getting closer to September, but summer isn’t over yet in Price County.
Late August and early September can be some of the best times to enjoy Wisconsin’s Northwoods. The days are still warm, the lakes are calling, trails are open and there’s plenty of time to squeeze in another outdoor adventure before fall officially takes over.
Whether you’re visiting Price County for the weekend or looking for an excuse to explore your own backyard, here are a few ways to make the most of what’s left of summer.
Spend One More Day on the Water
With lakes, rivers and streams throughout Price County, there are plenty of ways to spend a late-summer day on the water.
Launch the boat, grab the fishing poles, take out a kayak or simply pack the cooler and find a beach.
One great option is Solberg Lake County Park, just outside of Phillips. The park offers a sand beach, fishing piers, a paved boat launch, hiking trails, picnic areas and direct access to Solberg Lake.

Hit the ATV & UTV Trails
There’s still plenty of riding season ahead in Price County.
The area’s ATV and UTV trail system provides a great way to explore the Northwoods, with routes connecting forests, lakes and communities throughout the county.
The Tuscobia State Trail is one of the area’s best-known riding opportunities. Stretching 74 miles across northern Wisconsin, the trail begins in Park Falls and travels west through Price, Sawyer, Washburn and Barron counties.
According to the Wisconsin DNR, ATV use on the Price County portion of the Tuscobia State Trail is permitted during the summer season from April 15 through November 15.
That means there’s still plenty of time to plan another ride.

Visit the Highest Point in Wisconsin
If you haven’t made the trip to Timm’s Hill County Park yet this summer, now is a great time.
Located in southeastern Price County near Ogema, Timm’s Hill is the highest natural point in Wisconsin at 1,951.5 feet above sea level.
Take the trail to the observation tower, explore the hiking trails, bring a picnic or spend some time along Bass Lake. The park also offers swimming, fishing, picnic areas and other opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.

Make It a Camping Weekend
Why make it a day trip?
Late summer is a great time to spend a night or an entire weekend outdoors. Cooler evenings make sitting around the campfire even better, while the daytime still offers plenty of opportunities for swimming, fishing, boating and exploring.
Price County operates campgrounds at Solberg Lake, Smith Lake and Big Falls, giving visitors several options for turning a day outdoors into a Northwoods getaway.

Take the Long Way Home
Not every adventure needs an itinerary.
Take an evening drive. Find a hiking trail you haven’t explored. Stop somewhere for dinner. Go fishing after work. Pack a picnic and eat by the lake. Take the ATV somewhere new. Or simply find a quiet spot and watch the sun go down.
Part of what makes late summer special in Price County is how easy it is to slow down and enjoy it.
Soon enough, the greens of summer will give way to the reds, oranges and yellows of fall. Hunting seasons will arrive, temperatures will cool and another beautiful season in the Northwoods will begin.
