Phillips WinterFest once again showcased the strength of community partnerships and Northwoods winter spirit, even as extreme cold temperatures required adjustments to the weekend schedule. Despite the challenging weather, residents and visitors continued to support local events, businesses, and organizations throughout the festival.
While the WinterFest Ice Fishing Tournament was canceled for safety reasons, registered anglers remained engaged through prize drawings, with nearly $4,000 in prizes awarded. Prize giveaways were hosted at Flyway Bar and Grill, providing a central gathering spot for participants and helping keep WinterFest energy alive throughout the weekend.
One of the most anticipated WinterFest highlights, the community bonfire and fireworks at Elk Lake Park, brought families and visitors together for a memorable winter evening. The Lugerville Chasers Snowmobile Club played a key role in preparing the bonfire site, while the Phillips Fire Department delivered an impressive fireworks display that lit up the winter sky and capped off the evening celebration.
WinterFest also featured creative community involvement through the snow sculpture showcase. Local businesses and volunteers worked together to create eye-catching displays throughout Phillips, adding a festive atmosphere downtown and encouraging visitors to explore local shops and restaurants. Special thanks were extended to Totem Pole owner RuthAnn and the many participating businesses who coordinated and supported the sculpture efforts.
Athletic events and fundraisers hosted by partner organizations added even more activity to the weekend. The Phillips Flurry races brought runners and spectators to the area, while local snowmobile clubs such as the Chaparrals Snowmobile Club helped drive traffic through fundraising breakfasts and trail-related events that supported winter recreation in Price County.
The WinterFest Shop Local promotion also remained strong throughout the weekend, with hundreds of entries collected at participating businesses. Many of the prize baskets were donated by local merchants, reinforcing the strong partnership between the Phillips Area Chamber of Commerce and the business community.
Phillips WinterFest continues to be a true collaborative effort made possible by volunteers, sponsors, nonprofit organizations, city partners, and local businesses. Even with unpredictable winter weather, this year’s festival once again demonstrated how community partnerships and shared dedication help make WinterFest a signature winter celebration in Price County.
