Fall is beginning to make its appearance in Price County.
A look across Elk Lake in Phillips this week shows what we’re beginning to see throughout the area. Summer green still dominates the landscape, but yellows, oranges and even a few reds are beginning to work their way into the trees.
The latest local update to the Travel Wisconsin Fall Color Report puts Phillips & Southern Price County at approximately 10% color, with peak color currently expected during the second week of October.
That means the best is still ahead, but the transformation has officially begun.

Wisconsin’s fall colors can change quickly, especially once cooler nights arrive. If you’re thinking about making a trip to Price County this fall, the next few weeks are worth watching.

One of the best ways to experience fall in Price County doesn’t require much planning at all. Pick a road and explore.
Our lakes, forests and smaller communities make for some beautiful drives any time of year, but there’s something different about seeing them surrounded by fall color.
Travel through Phillips, Park Falls, Prentice, Fifield, Ogema, Catawba and Kennan, explore some of the county’s backroads, or find a lake you’ve never visited before.
As the colors continue to change, the drive can be just as much a part of the adventure as the destination.

Don’t Miss Timm’s Hill
If you’re planning a fall trip through Price County, make sure Timm’s Hill County Park near Ogema is on the list.
At approximately 1,952 feet above sea level, Timm’s Hill is the highest natural point in Wisconsin. A hike to the observation tower rewards visitors with a view above the surrounding Northwoods, making it an especially impressive stop as fall colors begin to spread across the landscape.
The park is surrounded by northern hardwood forest and includes hiking trails, an observation tower, picnic areas, Bass Lake and Timm’s Lake. It’s a great place to stretch your legs, pack a lunch and see the changing season from a completely different perspective.
As we get closer to peak color, the view from the top is one of those Price County experiences that’s hard to beat.

Fall is also one of the best times of year to get outside.
Cooler temperatures make it a great time for hiking, biking, ATV and UTV riding, paddling, fishing or simply spending an afternoon exploring the woods.
The Price County Forest provides thousands of acres to explore, along with trails, forest roads and recreation areas throughout the county.

For many people in Price County, changing leaves also mean it’s time to head back into the woods.
