Cast a Line, Hit the Trails and Explore Price County During Wisconsin’s Free Fun Weekend

June 6, 2026

Looking for a reason to get outside this weekend?

Wisconsin’s annual Free Fun Weekend returns June 6-7, giving residents and visitors an opportunity to enjoy some of the state’s most popular outdoor activities at no cost. During the weekend, fishing licenses, state park admission fees, and state trail passes are waived, making it one of the best opportunities of the year to explore Wisconsin’s outdoors.

For anglers, Free Fishing Weekend means anyone can cast a line without purchasing a fishing license, trout stamp, or salmon stamp. It’s a perfect chance for families, first-time anglers, or anyone who hasn’t fished in a while to spend time on the water. While licenses are waived, all fishing regulations, including size limits and bag limits, remain in effect.

Here in Price County, there are plenty of places to take advantage of the weekend. The Phillips Chain of Lakes, Soo Lake, Solberg Lake, and the Flambeau River offer opportunities to catch panfish, bass, northern pike, walleye, and more.

But fishing is only part of the story.

Free Fun Weekend also waives admission fees at Wisconsin State Parks and removes state trail pass requirements, encouraging visitors to get out and explore. Wisconsin’s parks, forests, trails, rivers, and lakes are all part of the celebration.

For visitors to Price County, that could mean:

  • Exploring local trails
  • Spending the day on the water
  • Enjoying a family picnic
  • Discovering a new fishing spot
  • Taking a scenic drive through the Northwoods
  • Introducing a child or grandchild to fishing for the first time

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources hosts Free Fun Weekend each June to encourage more people to experience the outdoors and discover new recreational opportunities across the state. Wisconsin is home to roughly 15,000 lakes, 84,000 miles of rivers and streams, 50 state parks, and 44 state trails, giving outdoor enthusiasts no shortage of places to explore.

Whether you’re casting a line, exploring a trail, or simply enjoying a day outdoors with family and friends, Free Fun Weekend is a great reminder of why so many people love spending their summers in Price County.
