There’s something special about fall fishing in Wisconsin’s Northwoods. The trees are changing, mornings are getting cooler, boat traffic is slowing down, and some of the most anticipated fishing of the year is underway.
This week, October 5–7, Price County is welcoming veterans to the Northwoods for the Wisconsin Veterans Fishing Camp’s Fall Musky Camp.
The Wisconsin Veterans Fishing Camp brings Wisconsin veterans together for a few days centered around fishing, camaraderie, and time spent outdoors. The Fall Musky Camp gives participants an opportunity to pursue Wisconsin’s legendary state fish alongside experienced guides while enjoying everything a fall day in the Northwoods has to offer.
And there may not be a better time of year to do it.
🍂 Fall Fishing Is Heating Up in Price County
October may bring cooler temperatures, but that certainly doesn’t mean fishing season is winding down.
As water temperatures drop and fish transition into their fall patterns, October can bring exciting opportunities for anglers willing to bundle up and spend a day on the water. Musky and walleye are especially popular fall targets, while Price County’s lakes, rivers and streams offer opportunities for northern pike, bass, panfish and trout as well.
For musky anglers, fall has long been one of the most anticipated times of the season. Cooler water and changing forage patterns can mean opportunities to encounter some impressive Northwoods fish.
Wisconsin has also expanded the opportunity to chase its state fish. Beginning in 2026, the inland musky season runs statewide from May 2 through December 31 on open water.
Trout anglers still have a little time as well, with Wisconsin’s general inland trout season continuing through October 15.
Before heading out, anglers should always check the current regulations for the specific lake, river or stream they plan to fish, as seasons, size limits and bag limits can vary by waterbody.

More Than a Fishing Trip
Of course, this week’s camp is about much more than catching fish.
The Wisconsin Veterans Fishing Camp is based at Hidden Cove Resort in the Phillips area, where the resort is donated for the camp. Lodging, meals and beverages are provided to participating veterans through donations and contributions, allowing veterans to attend the camp at no charge aside from transportation to and from the event.
That generosity follows them onto the water.
Fishing guides donate their time, boats, equipment and travel expenses to take veterans fishing. Cooks prepare meals, sponsors and businesses contribute funding and supplies, and volunteers work behind the scenes to bring the entire experience together.
It takes a lot of people to make something like this happen, and their generosity deserves recognition too.
It’s a community effort built around a pretty simple idea: serving those who served.
For a few days, fishing provides the backdrop for veterans to spend time outdoors, reconnect with nature, swap stories, build friendships and simply enjoy some time on the water.
